About the expedition
We start by going through all the equipment, making sure we are prepared to be out in the mountains for three days. We pack the sleds and you are handed “your” dogs. There will be a short and precise instruction on how to ride a sled before we set off from the kennel at Jotunheimen Husky Logde.
We ride through the mountain pine forest for the first 6 kilometres. Then we start the climb up to the snowy mountains. Here it is quite steep, so we must help the dogs for a few kilometres before we enter the beautiful Veodalen. Vi stop for lunch and enjoy a hot meal around the campfire.
Now we enter Jotunheimen National Park. Here we get fantastic views, surrounded by white-clad peaks. We descend to Glitterheim tourist lodge, which lies at the foot of the magnificent Glittertind. Here we get the dogs on the longline, before we give them food and care. Well accommodated at Glitterheim, we enjoy a nice dinner and each other’s company. And who knows, maybe we’ll catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights?
We start by grooming and feeding the dogs. While they take a little nap, we enjoy our own breakfast served at Glitterheim. We make plans for today’s route according to the weather. We have several options and together we decide how far to ride. There will be a hot lunch around the campfire today as well. Back at Glitterheim, we give the dogs food and care, before we enjoy dinner and another pleasant evening indoors.
After feeding and taking care of the dogs, we eat breakfast and pack our gear. Today we’ll return to Jotunheimen Husky Lodge. We stop for lunch along the way. Back at the kennels, we unharness the dogs and thank them for the ride. Before everyone heads home, we enjoy a small snack together and summarize the trip – hopefully full of impressions and new experiences.
